TIANJIN, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) — China’s northern port city of Tianjin saw its retail sales soar during the Spring Festival holiday, said the municipal commission of commerce on Friday.
Data from the commission showed that 200 department stores, shopping malls and supermarkets in Tianjin raked in a total of 1.59 billion yuan (about 246 million U.S. dollars) during the weeklong holiday, up 64 percent from the same period last year.
The catering industry also saw robust growth, with 27 catering companies drawing total revenues of 11.92 million yuan, an increase of 52.5 percent compared with the same holiday period in 2020.
As many chose to stay put for the holiday amid the pandemic, tourism products such as short trips and spa hotel visits recorded remarkable increases in Tianjin during the holiday.
The city also organized various events such as fairs, snow-and-ice festivals and over 200 programs during the holiday. Enditem
